The football world is beginning to take notice of Kevin Martins, a 20-year-old striker currently plying his trade with Serie A club Monza — and with good reason.
Not only is he carving out a path for himself in professional football, but he also comes from a lineage rich in talent and football pedigree.
Kevin is the son of former Nigerian international and Inter Milan star Obafemi Martins, one of Africa’s most explosive forwards in the 2000s. Known for his pace, acrobatic celebrations, and goal-scoring prowess, Obafemi Martins enjoyed a prolific career across Europe and Asia, representing clubs like Newcastle United, Inter Milan, and Seattle Sounders.
But Kevin’s football heritage doesn’t stop there. His mother, Abigail Barwuah, is Ghanaian and the biological sister of Italian forward Mario Balotelli, making Balotelli his maternal uncle. This unique family connection links Kevin to two footballing nations—Nigeria and Italy—through his parents, and Ghana, through his maternal roots.
Having come through the ranks in Italy, Kevin now finds himself with Monza, a club that has steadily grown in stature in Serie A under the ownership of former AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi and management of Adriano Galliani. Kevin plays as a striker, following in the footsteps of his father, and is developing a reputation for his intelligent movement and goal-scoring instinct.
With roots in three countries, Kevin Martins is eligible to represent Italy, Nigeria, or Ghana at international level. While he has yet to declare for any of the three nations, his performances at club level could soon prompt a race for his allegiance.
