Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo is reportedly on the brink of leaving English side Plymouth Argyle, just six months after joining the club.
According to Qatari outlet Akoora, the 26-year-old is close to sealing a move to Qatar Stars League runners-up Umm Salal SC, with talks said to be at an advanced stage.
Baidoo joined Plymouth Argyle in January 2025 from Swedish side IF Elfsborg in what was believed to be a record transfer fee for the Swedish club — between €1.7 and €1.8 million, with additional performance-related bonuses.
However, the midfielder has struggled to make a significant impact in the English Championship. He featured just 13 times for Plymouth in the second half of the season and failed to cement a regular place in the starting lineup.
Plymouth’s relegation to League One at the end of the 2024/25 season has only added uncertainty to his future, prompting Baidoo to seek opportunities elsewhere.
A move to Umm Salal would offer Baidoo a fresh start in a financially rewarding and growing league, with the potential for more regular first-team football and a stable environment to rediscover his form.
If the deal is finalized, it would represent the latest chapter in Baidoo’s career, which has already spanned stints in Norway, Sweden, England, and potentially now Qatar.
