Ghana and Chelsea legend Michael Essien is the first Ghanaian World Cup star to openly throw his support to the LGBTQI society in Ghana.
Despite the fact that many Ghanaians are against the act, which they see as an abominable thing to do due to their religious beliefs and customs, Essien has boldly showed his support to the LGBTQI society publicly.
The former Real Madrid and Olympic Lyon star midfielder sometime ago came public and received a public backlash but unperturbed has gone an extra mile to prove he fully supports Gays and Lesbians.
The current assistant manager for Danish side FC Nordsjaelland first team was seen with a Rainbow hat, the colours that represents the LGBTQI society all over the world.
Essien is a married man and was formerly the boyfriend of Ghana movie star Nadia Buari which sparks anger in the youth who do not believe in same sex act.
Essien played for Ghana at the 2006 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments in Germany and Brazil respectively for the four-time AFCON champions.
He also won the UEFA Champions League trophy with England giant Chelsea FC in 2012 against Bayern München in München and also played and won the La Liga with Real Madrid during José Mourinho’s tenure as Madrid manager coupled with English Premier League, FA CUP, and Community Shield.
In the video below, the Chelsea legend was wearing his LGBTQI movement hat jubilating with his players after their first win in the Denmark Superliga.
