Former Ghana International Michael Essien is convinced Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Teye Partey will be a great leader for the Black Stars team.
The tall and intelligent midfielder already has had the opportunity to act as the stand-in captain of the team in Asamoah Gyan absence.
He led the Black Stars team in the International friendly matches against Japan and Iceland where Ghana beat the former 3-0 and drew 2-2 with the latter.
And the former Chelsea star is backing Partey to become the new Black Stars captain.
”There are good players in the team but I think Partey is doing great and he can lead the team,” he told TV3.
”He is doing wonderful with his Club and National team as well, he captained the team on few occasion and I think he will be a good leader.”
Michael Essien, 33, announced his retirement from International football having participated at two World Cups and two Cup of Nations tournament with the Black Stars.
During his playing days, he wore the Black Stars captains arm band on few occasions.
