Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu netted his first-ever UEFA Champions League goal in AS Monaco’s dramatic 2-2 away draw against Dinamo Zagreb on a rainy Wednesday night.
In challenging weather conditions in Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb took a two-goal lead, with Petar Sucic scoring just before halftime and Martin Baturina doubling the advantage with a stunning curling shot in the 66th minute.
However, Monaco mounted a late comeback. Salisu’s powerful header in the 74th minute halved the deficit, marking his first goal in the prestigious competition. Moments later, Takumi Minamino came close to equalizing but had his effort cleared off the line.
The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when Monaco were awarded a penalty following a foul on Folarin Balogun. Captain Denis Zakaria stepped up and calmly converted, securing a crucial point for Monaco and denying Dinamo Zagreb the victory.
Salisu’s standout performance, playing the full 90 minutes, continues to shine as he has now made six appearances for Monaco this season, contributing his first goal.
Dinamo Zagreb’s defensive woes were further highlighted as they set an unfortunate record for most goals conceded in their first two Champions League matches of the season.
