Ghana U17 women’s captain Mukarama Abdulai won the Player of the Match award following their 5-0 hammering of host Uruguay at the World Cup on Tuesday.
Abdulai bagged a hat-trick that powered the Black Maidens to humiliate the home side at Estadio Charrua in Montevideo which resulted in her receiving the award.
The Black Maidens captain clinched the hat-trick in the Group A contest of the opening day at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2018 and also providing assist.
Abdulai Mukarama found Fuseina Mumuni on the 20th minute in the box with the latter turning a 180 degrees beautifully to put the ball into the net.
Ruth Anima however, saw her left-footed cross being perfectly met by captain and striker Abdulai Mukarama’s header t double the Black Maidens lead.
The hosts were forced to make another change after Goalkeeper Jenifer Sosa was injured after colliding with Ghana’s Fuseina Mumuni.
Jenifer Sosa was replaced by Augustina Caraballo with Mumuni also being replaced Millot Abena Pokuaa.
Black from recess, Uruguay started piling pressure on the Ghanaian team but couldn’t make that count much as first half substitute Millot Pokuaa made it 3-0 for Ghana in the 68th minute with with a cool finish.
Ghana quickly took control of the game in their quest to score more goals.
Their dominance finally paid off in the 77th minute when Captain Abdulai Mukarama calmly slotted in Susan Teye’s cross to finish her brace and the Black Maidens fourth on the night.
As if they was enough, Abdulai Mukarama again struck on stoppage time to complete her hat-trick on the night.
Mukarama, scored 12 goals in 4 matches during the qualifiers against Gambia and Djibouti.
Ghana will take on Finland in their second group A game on Friday at 7pm local time.
