Coach for the senior national team of Ghana, CK Akonnor has made his intentions about the next FIFA World Cup competition clear and set up his own goals and targets for the event.
According to him, his aim as a Black Stars head coach is to qualify the West African Football nation, Ghana for the next FIFA World Cup competition.
In an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM he said; “My aim and aspiration is to help Ghana qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which would be staged in Qatar.”
He furthermore said that, he does not only crave for qualification to go and add up to the number but to also go and do well at the world’s largest football event.
“I want to qualify for nation for the next FIFA World Cup competition but that is not all as I would like and want my team to do well and make the country proud and everyone happy”, he stated.
Ghana has been to the World Cup on three occasions and managed to get out of the group stages twice by reaching the round of 16 in Germany in 2006 but was eliminated by Brazil and bettered their performance in the next world cup when they reached quarter final in South Africa only to succumb to Uruguay on penalties and exited in the group stages in Brazil in 2014.
Ghana failed to qualify for the 2018 edition in Russia and the head coach is determined to take the country’s football at the international stage back to the apex of FIFA’s competitions.
