“My performances for the Black Stars have been very average” – Antoine Semenyo admits, vows to improve

Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has admitted that his performances for the national team have been “very average” but remains confident that he can improve and deliver more for Ghana.

The Bournemouth attacker played a key role in Ghana’s dominant 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, opening the scoring at the Accra Sports Stadium. The goal was his third for the Black Stars in 26 appearances since his debut in 2022 and his first in over a year, with his last coming against Angola in March 2023.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Lawrence Baidoo for SuperSport, Semenyo acknowledged his inconsistent form and emphasized his determination to step up his performances.

“I definitely want more goals, for sure. Any player in an attacking position wants more goals,” he said. “I feel like I’ve had some decent performances, some not-so-great performances. But I’m humble—I know when I’ve played well, and I know when I haven’t.”

Despite his contributions, the 24-year-old admitted that he has yet to be a standout performer for the Black Stars but assured fans that he is committed to improving.

“I’d say my performances have been steady—just very average—but I know I can give more,” he added. “I hope no one is judging me based on these 26 games, because there’s definitely more to come.”

With Ghana currently leading Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, Semenyo will be eager to build on his latest goal and make a bigger impact when the Black Stars face Madagascar on Monday, March 24. A strong performance in that crucial clash could further boost his confidence as he looks to establish himself as a key figure in Otto Addo’s squad.
