In a hotly contested election, which saw the two candidates campaigning vigorously for votes at the various local Circles, Nana Kwame Dankwah beat Charles Opoku by only one vote to emerge as the Greater Accra Regional Circle Council (GARCC) Chairman.

The former National Circles Council (NCC) spokesman polled 44 votes while his competitor garnered 43 votes in an extremely close contest.

According to reports, the election went on smoothly on Saturday afternoon.

Charles Opoku, a respected staunch Tema based supporter undoubtedly gave Nana Kwame a stern opposition with  both candidates providing massive changes in the GARCC setup prior to the election.

That of Nana Kwame even included an elaborate plan to make supporters subscription of Kotoko Express bigger than it is at present.

With the election over, Nana Kwame is expected to name his executives soon but his immediate challenge, according to many Kotoko supporters, would be to unite the group especially after an uneasy campaign for votes and closely fought election.

His tough job of making the once powerful GARCC more relevant to Kotoko’s course begins now.
