Ashanti Gold SC had to rely on Mark Agyekum’s 44th minute goal to seal a 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition matchday eleven at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors are thus winless in their last three matches, having picked a point each against Berekum Chelsea and Bechem United in their previous two fixtures.
Ashgold, having been defeated 1-0 by Medeama SC in their midweek fixture in Tarkwa, returned to winning ways after sealing a narrow win over their former gaffer CK Akonnor’s side.
The game was an end to end affair, with AshGold as usual dominating the visitors in the first half before the Porcupine Warriors lifted up their performance in the second half.
Ashgold could have been up by two goals on the 63rd minute but thanks to Felix Annan who stretched to get a touch on a perfectly delivered free kick from Appiah McCarthy.
Abdul Latif Anabila couldn’t finish the game for the hosts as a result of an injury sustained and had to be replaced by Joseph Gordon in midfield.
With game getting tougher, Asante Kotoko coach CK Akonnor brought on Kwame Bonsu for Martin Antwi with forward Naby Keita taking the place of midfielder Jordan Opoku six minutes to stoppage time in attempt to restore parity but their introduction had little impact on the game as Ashgold clinched all three points.
Striker Sadick Adams had to start the game from the bench after being introduced into the game on the 76th minute as Shafiu Mumuni’s replacement.
