Karela FC shockingly silenced AshantiGold SC at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday after beating them 1-0 to book tickets to the final of the Tier One of the Special Competition.
They thus set up a mouth-watering final clash against giants Asante Kotoko.
Striker Diawisie Taylor’s late sensation in injury time was all that the Ayinase –based side needed to keep their dream of qualifying for their continental competition on their first attempt alive.
The game was a tensed encounter which saw the Miners dominating play in the early stanza of the game, however the Karela defence remained resolute and prevented strikers Mark Agyekum and Shafiu Mumuni from scoring.
The second half looked very dicey as both teams enjoyed some possessive and entertaining soccer to the delight of the fans who thronged the Len Clay Stadium.
Lethal striker Diawisie Taylor, in the end became the hero when his powerful shot at the edge of the box sent Coach Johnson Smith’s side to the final of the competition.
Ashgold, who finished leaders in the Northern Zone of the NC Competition, were hoping to defeat Karela, who were runners up in the Southern Zone.
Nonetheless, Karela stunned them at home with Diawise Taylor’s sumptuous strike in the closing stages of the epic clash.
Diawise currently is the top scorer in competition with 10 goals with Asante Kotoko’s Abdul Fatawu Safiu netting nine goals.
