A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress and former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu Juaben Municipality, Yamoah Afrifa Ponko, has lauded the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah for his exemplary leadership qualities.
According to the former Asante Kotoko management member, the sector minister has been awe-inspiring so far in office with his incredible achievements in the development of sports in the country.
There is massive infrastructural development presently being undertaken across 10 out of the 16 regions of the country which is aimed at taking sporting facilities closer to the youth within their communities in order to ease the pressure on the few major stadiums in the country.
Speaking on Takoradi-based Spice FM, Yamoah Ponko commended the minister for the brilliant work done but stresses the NDC would do better should they win the 2020 polls.
”The only sector that have done so well under NPP Government is the Sports Ministry, I doff my hat for Hon Isaac Asiamah, but NDC will do better than them if we come to power,” said Yamoah Ponko.
The minister on Friday 4th September 2020, cut sod for construction works to begin at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium which had been abandoned for nearly 25 years and also disclosed that Government will soon commence the reconstruction of the Sekondi Gyendu Park, and that of Kpando.
Meanwhile, renovation works have also begun at the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong which was built for the Cup of Nation’s football tournament hosted by Ghana in 2008.
The facility was completed in 2007 for the tournament in January 2008 and it hosted Group B games in the competition involving Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Mali and Benin.
Under the minister’s watch, the Accra Sports Stadium has seen a total facelift with massive renovation exercise currently ongoing at the Kumasi-Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
