The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has introduced new incentives for referees, a move that is expected to improve officiating in the country.
According to the GFA’s Referees Manager, Alex Kotei, the improved benefits are the result of hard work and careful planning. Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, he said the incentives will motivate referees to give their best during matches.
Mr. Kotei explained that this is a “two-way situation.” On one hand, the extra support will put more pressure on referees to perform at a higher standard, in line with the promise made by the GFA President. On the other hand, it will encourage Division One referees to work harder so they can get the opportunity to officiate in the Premier League.
He added that while this is still a work in progress, it is a positive step for Ghana football. “We have worked hard to get here, and this will help us demand more from our referees,” he said.
