New Kotoko trainer Charles Akonnor has revealed that he is not scared of been fired by the club if he fails to live up to expectation.
The former Ashanti Gold coach was confirmed to take charge of Ghana’s most successful club on Monday, two weeks after the resignation of former coach Paa Kwesi Fabin.
Akonnor, a former Ghana international signed a 3-year deal with Kotoko and is expected to be unveiled officially in the coming days.
Speaking in an interview moments after he concluded the deal, CK. Akonnor revealed that he is well aware of the risk involved in coaching a club like Kotoko.
“Asante Kotoko SC is a big club and is a privilege to be here coaching this club”, he told Kumasi based Nhyira FM, adding that, “There is no room for fear because Asante Kotoko SC is used to sacking coaches.
“I am here to either succeed or fail and with the necessary support I know I will fight to succeed”
On the club’s target for him, Akunnor disclosed the club have outlined their targets for him and expressed hope he can work to meet those targets.
“Asante Kotoko SC has given me their target and I have also given them mine”, he said.
“And I hope we can meet each other for the success story we all wish for”, the former Dreams FC trainer explained.
Akunnor might be young in coaching terms but his level of experience in the Ghanaian coaching industry makes him one of the best on the local scene.
