A member of the Ayew family and former Ghana midfielder Solar Ayew has challenged striker Jordan Ayew to do more at Crystal Palace next season following his tremendous display at the club in the just ended 2019/20 English Premier League season.
Ayew, who registered 9 goals in 39 games for the South London outfit, was named Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season as well as winning the accolade for the best goal of the campaign.
The 28-year old former Swansea City attacker secured 37% of the total votes from almost 6,000 supporters to beat Vicente Guaita (28.2%) and Gary Cahill (16.7%) to scoop the top most award.
He also became the first Ghanaian player to score more goals in the English Premier League with 25 goals, one better than Leeds United colt hero Tony Yeboah.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Ashh FM on Ayew’s blistering form at Crystal Place, Solar Ayew said ”We were expecting this news and by the grace of God it has happened,”
Jordan Ayew will be the next George Oppong Wiah. Our players have push him to this far.
”We the family always advice him to focus more on the football than the money and I believe that he has push him to that far.”
“I talk to Jordan Ayew everyday and I congratulated him though but I also challenge him to do more next season. I’m hoping he becomes the next George Oppong Wiah .
”His style and Abedi Ayew is not the same so you can’t compare him to his father that’s why I’m comparing him to George Oppong Wiah.
”We can’t suggest the deputy captain to Coach and management of black stars but his football should determine if he can become the captain or deputy captain.
He concluded by saying that ”We thank everyone who have contributed into our success today.Northern’s have the heart to contain any pressure.”
Ayew also chalked the following successes at Crystal Palace during the season.
9 goals worth 14 points.
10 Man of the Match Awards.
2 Player of the Month Awards.
1 Goal of the Season.
1 Goal at the seaside.
