Bundesliga 2 newcomers SG Dynamo Dresden have made official the signing of Ghanaian budding defender Michael Akoto.
Akoto joins the club on a two-year deal ahead of the 2021-22 football season.
The young untility centre-back who can also operate as a defensive midfielder across the pitch, left Bundesliga elite division side FSV Mainz O5 this campaign and has now finlised a move to the lower tier outfit on a free transfer basis.
The defender cum midfielder after signing the deal expressed his excitement.
“It feels great to be here in Dresden now, because it should be the next development step in my career. The conversations with those responsible were great and completely convinced me to switch to Dynamo in the 2nd Bundesliga. I will continue to work hard on me and give everything so that we achieve our goals in the coming season,” the towering stopper told the club’s official website.
Sporting director Ralf Becker, however, heaped praises on the defender.
“Michael Akoto is an extremely athletic player who has many promising facets to offer, which enables him to be used in both defense and defensive midfield. In addition, he brings a great potential for development, which we are convinced that he will fit very well into our team,” Ralf said to the same club’s forum.
Akoto made 25 league games caps for the Mainz O5 ll side in the 2020-21 Regionalliga Sudwest.
