Dutch-born forward Cody Mathès Gakpo of Ghanaian descent has extended his contract with the Dutch top-flight giants.
The 20-year-old has officially a fresh three-year deal which ties him until at the Philips Stadion until summer 2023.
“This new contract gives me the feeling that the club appreciates me. Those are things that you as a footballer must cherish,” Gakpo told the club’s official website.
“It was not such a difficult choice for me to renew again,” “I am very happy that I have again been able to put my signature under a PSV contract. As a boy from Eindhoven it is of course a dream to reach the first team.”
Gakpo, who has has Togolese descent, rose from the club’s youth side Jong PSV two years ago after scoring 17 times in 26 matches.
The pacy striker has now established himself as a starter in PSV Eindhoven first time since his promotion from the youth side at age 18.
“In recent years I have been able to play football step by step. Via Jong PSV, training at the first, a permanent place in the selection and occasionally minutes to the situation as it is now.
”I feel great here in my own city.” He is currently nursing an injury he picked up earlier last week.
The four million euros rated attacker has scored two goals with two assists in his 10 appearances for PSV Eindhoven this season so far.
Boron to a Ghanaian father and a Togolese mother in Eindhoven, Gakpo has already featured for the Netherlands U18, U19, U20 and U21. He is however, still eligible to play for either Ghana or Togo at the senior national level.
