Ghanaian attacking midfielder Brendan Wiredu Sarpong has joined Colchester United on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee after parting ways with Charlon Athletic as earlier reported exclusively by SPORTSworldGhana.com on Monday Morning.
The Addicks academy graduate made six first-team appearances in cup competitions for Colchester United after making his debut in the League Cup against Milton Keynes Dons in August 2018 and has been a key player for Jason Euell’s U23 side in recent seasons.
He has signed permanently from Charlton for an undisclosed fee, but he isn’t a stranger to north Essex.
Current Head Coach Steve Ball was McGreal’s assistant at that time, so knows all about Wiredu’s qualities.
He told the official website: “It’s great to get Brendan over the line ahead of the run of games we have now.”
“He is a superb athlete with a strong engine, and his qualities as a footballer will benefit us without a doubt.
“He’s still at a great age for development, but we already know he can perform in a number of positions across midfield and defence.”
Brendan has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2022, subject to the usual approvals from relevent bodies, and it is hoped that he will be eligible for the trip to Salford on Tuesday.
