The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced the departure of Michael Nees as the national team head coach.
The decision was made by the executive committee, chaired by ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi.
“ZIFA takes this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr Nees for his efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football during his tenure. His dedication to the game and his service to the national structures are appreciated,” a statement by the association read.
“ZIFA remains firmly committed to strengthening its technical development programmes and ensuring continued progress in all areas of the game in line with its reform and restructuring agenda.”
Details about the transition process and interim technical arrangements will be announced soon, ZIFA said
The German was appointed in July 2024 and took charge of 2 AFCON qualifiers and six World Cup qualifiers, leading the Warriors to four draws and four defeats.
Zimbabwe were forced to play their home international matches in neighbouring countries due to lack of a FIFA-approved stadium, and Nees will cite this in his defence.
