“Otto Addo has what it takes to lead every team” – Laryea Kingston

Ghana international Laryea Kingston has thrown his support behind Black Stars gaffer Otto Addo to lead the team to success ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Having failed to guide the Black Stars to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, Addo masterminded Ghana’s qualification to the Munial scheduled for next summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars finished as group winners with 25 points after 10 games during the qualifying series.

Despite calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal ahead of the tournament, Kingston believes the 50-year-old is good enough to lead the team to success.

The former Black Starlets coach, however, cautioned Addo to ensure consistency in the performance of the team.

“Otto Addo has what it takes to lead every team because of the experience he has now,” Kingston told SuperSport Blitz.

“He has been at FC Nordsjaelland before going to Borussia Dortmund, a side that is just like Nordsjaelland, so I believe that in the long term, he will be a success for the national team, but there should be consistency,” he added.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England on June 23 in Boston, and wrap up the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

Following early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, Ghana will be aiming for a more successful run in the expanded 2026 tournament.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo is expected to name his final squad for the tournament on June 1.
