Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Legon Cities 2-1 on Thursday evening at the Accra Sports Stadium to reclaim top position on the league log.
Midfielder Ansah Botchway and striker Kwadwo Obeng junior scored a goal each in the first half to give the Phonians a crucial matchday 30 victory of the Royals.
Hearts of Oak took the lead through Kwadwo Obeng Jnr in the 29th minute before midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway doubled the lead with a thunderous strike.
Although Legon Cities FC will halve the deficit through a strike from Victorien Adje Adebayor in the 40th minute, Hearts of Oak held on in the second half to cruise to a 2-1 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
The win means that Samuel Boadu’s side have reclaimed the top spot with 56 points, same as Kotoko.
The Phonians are on top of the league standings by virtue of goal difference.
The Phonians will host Arch rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Accra Sports in the epic week 31 Super Clash.
