Ghana’s Black Stars held their final training in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday five fixture against South Africa.
The Black Stars arrived at the OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg in the early hours of Wednesday.
Players, technical staff and management members underwent the mandatory COVID-19 test before moving to the FNB Stadium for training.
Ghana face South Africa on Thursday at 4 pm local time. At least a draw for Akonnor’s side will see them book qualification to the 2022 Nations Cup which will be staged in Cameroon.
Should the Black Stars lose then they will need a win against whipping boys, Sao Tome and Principe in Accra on Sunday to book a ticket to next year’s tourney.
Ghana have nine points – the same as Sudan and South Africa, but the Black Stars remain top of the group due to their better head-to-head record against the two countries.
