Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko former captain joseph Hendricks says players of the past generation were far better and serious than players of today’s generation.
In an exclusive interview with Accra-based Hot FM, the former Kotoko stalwart defender gave reasons why he believes current footballers are not on the same level as some players of the past.
“All the footballers during our days are better, serious than most current footballers because during our time we pass through all the ranks, colts to second division first division to premier division and during our time a player can stay in one team to be consistent in form for about five six seven years before we think about traveling abroad to play but current footballers when they play just a season they want to travel abroad and always they fail trials and that means they are not up to the tasks”, he explained.
Furthermore, Hendricks also stated that, the current crop of Ghanaian players have no locus to compare themselves to players of the past.
“Current footballers cannot compare themselves to those of us who played some years back because we are far better than them”, he added.
On the other hand, Hendricks advised young players in Ghana to take their training seriously and put an end to anything that hinders their progress.
“Today’s footballers have to be serious and wake up and train hard and lift up their games to pull supporters to the stadium because we lack quality players in the local league and they must only focus on the game to better their standard of play”, he concluded.
