New Black Stars forward Prince Osei Owusu has expressed excitement ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Germany national football team and Austria national football team later this month, as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The German-born striker made his Ghana debut in November last year after completing his nationality switch, a milestone he described as “a special day and a special moment” during a visit to Ghana over the New Year.
“I made my debut and I thank God for that. Celebrating in Ghana with my family was really special,” Owusu told GhanaSoccernet.
Having represented Germany at youth levels, Owusu said playing for his roots is a source of pride. “For me it is a very special game. It will be a very, very big day for me, my family, and friends. If I am invited, I will be glad and happy, but my focus is on performing well and helping the team,” he added.
The 29-year-old striker has been in strong form for CF Montréal, scoring his first goal of the season as the Canadian side thrashed New York Red Bulls. He also became the club’s tenth all-time leading scorer in Major League Soccer.
Owusu spent most of his early career in Germany before moving to the MLS, where he previously played for Toronto FC, and will now aim to make a mark with the Black Stars in the March international break.
