Former Black Stars call-up Danlad Ibrahim has opened up on the path for local players to earn a spot in Ghana’s senior national team, highlighting the role of hard work, focus, and club support.
Ibrahim, who was one of only two locally-based players called up to the 2022 World Cup squad, reflected on his journey to the national team. “Seeing my name in the provisional squad gave me hope of making the final team, but honestly, my confidence wasn’t at 100%,” he admitted.
The goalkeeper credited his club, Asante Kotoko, for playing a pivotal role in his development. “Playing for Kotoko increases your chances of getting a call-up, especially when you perform wholeheartedly. Nothing special, just being myself and staying focused on the work,” he explained.
He also offered guidance to other local-based players with national team ambitions: “Work hard every week, perform consistently, and stay disciplined. If you do that, your chance of earning a national team call-up will surely come.”
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, Ibrahim’s insights underscore a clear message for local talents: dedication, consistency, and discipline remain the foundation for anyone dreaming of representing Ghana on football’s biggest stage.
