Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has blamed politicians for the constant visa fraud scandals that has rocked Ghana’s campaign at successive international competitions.
Board chairman of the national sports authority Kojo Baah Agyemang on Tuesday became the third government appointee to be suspended by President Akufo-Addo after deputy sports minister Pius Enam Hadzide and NSA boss Robert Sarfo Mensah were asked to step aside.
The move is in connection with the visa racketeering scandal that rocked Ghana’s campaign at this year’s commonwealth games in Australia.
But Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who wants an end to the shameful act insists they always do that to appease party supporters.
“The principal actors in this has always been the is politicians”
“If we stop using those occasions as the time to satisfy party supporters these things will stop”
“It happened in 2010, under late President Mills, again in 2014 under former president John Mahama and in 2018 under President Akufo Addo” he said on GTV’s Talking point show.
“It doesn’t only happen in sports, sometimes in pilgrimages because the politician always sees this as an opportunity to send constituency organizer, Secretary and this is the time politicians we use to put so much pressure on technical people, public servants and civil servants influence them to do things in a way that go to flout the law and bring such disgrace to the country” he added
