Prince Yaw Owusu has acknowledged that Asante Kotoko’s chances of winning the Ghana Premier League have suffered a major setback following their 1-0 home defeat to Hearts of Oak.
The interim coach made this known after the Porcupine Warriors failed to secure points in the highly anticipated Super Clash at the Baba Yara Stadium. Baba Adamu’s early header proved decisive, leaving Kotoko with another disappointing result.
Coming into the match, Kotoko were hoping to recover from back-to-back setbacks, including a league loss to Heart of Lions and an FA Cup elimination against Aduana FC. However, their plans to bounce back in front of their home supporters did not materialise.
Reacting after the game, Prince Yaw Owusu admitted that the defeat has made their title ambition very difficult. He stressed that the team will now have to work extremely hard if they are to remain in contention for the league trophy.
Kotoko currently sit fifth on the table with 35 points. They will attempt to return to winning ways when they travel to face Young Apostles on Matchday 23 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.
With the season entering a crucial stage, the pressure is mounting on the Porcupine Warriors to respond strongly.
