The 2023/2024 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier league kicks off this weekend in the northern and southern sectors.

In the northern zone, defending champions, Ampem Darkoa ladies opening game would take a little longer following the decision to postpone their matches to enable them compete in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Debutants Fosu Royal ladies will start their top flight season at home to Supreme ladies at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.

The Previews are as follows:

PRISONS LADIES’ VS TAMALE SUPER LADIES.

Prisons ladies will play host to Tamale based Super ladies at the Sunyani Coronation Park. Having lost their first match last season against Savanna ladies, Prisons ladies are looking forward to a positive start to the new season. Tamale Super ladies managed a 1-1 draw at the Coronation Park last season and will be motivated going into the game.

New coach of Prisons Ladies Bernice Kyeremeh Adutwumwaa is looking ahead to a good start after replacing Amadu Imoro as the new trainer.

Helena Obeng of Prisons ladies, who emerged the overall best player in the 2022/23 season, will be the key player to watch in this context. looking forward to maintain her performance. Prisons ladies finished 6th in the Northern Zone log with 27 points in 18 games, whiles Tamale Super ladies managed to escape relegation.

FOSU ROYAL LADIES VS SUPREME LADIES.

New entrants Fosu Royal ladies will begin their season at home to Supreme ladies at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman. Supreme ladies were 4th on the table last season, amassing 28 points and with experience on their side, they look poised and motivated ahead of this encounter.

KUMASI SPORTS ACADEMY VRS PEARLPIA LADIES

Returnees, Kumasi Sports Academy will host giants, Pearl Pia Ladies at the Bantama Astro turf. The visitors who ended last season on a poor note will look to improve on their performance away from home.

KUSA, as they are affectionately called are back in the premier league after suffering relegation last two seasons ago. Both sides go into the game with no injury concerns – throwing the fixture into a promising one.

NORTHERN LADIES VRS ASHTOWN LADIES

The Aliu Mahama sports stadium will host the game between Northern Ladies and Ashtown Ladies. Northern Ladies had a roller coaster pre-season after finding bottom of their group in the recent Women’s Premier Super Cup.

The last encounter between the two sides in the 2022/2023 season ended in a draw at the same venue. Ashtown Ladies who struggled during last season’s campaign are hoping to make a mark this time round in order to finish in the top four.

Northern Ladies are the favorites going into this match as they boast of a better record against their opponents but Ashtown ladies have always been a tough customer for them.
