When Abedi Ayew made the move from Real Tamale United to Qatar giants Al Sadd SC in 1982 he once collapsed from hunger during a training session and this is according to the man seen as the greatest ever Ghanaian footballer.
The Qatari side has announced an initial agreement with Andre Ayew who left Swansea City as a free agent at the end of last season.
The Maestro revealed some interesting happenings during his short stay in the Gulf country.
“I was drinking tea and omelette alone when I went to Qatar because I couldn’t cook” he told GTV Sports Plus in June 2020.
“I was staying in a hotel but a group of Ghanaian students in Qatar told me to request for my own house and they will come there and cook for me. I did and was given a whole house on my own. But the students came there only once and never came again. So I was only taking tea and omelette.
I went to training one day and I collapsed. I was asked and I told them what I’ve been eating and so I was moved back to the hotel,” Abedi said.
This should then be an important advice to his son Andre who is going to the same country, the same football club.
Ayew is expected to complete all the remaining formalities in the coming days before his official presentation.
