The family of Ghana’s celebrated Sports Administrator, Ohene Djan have sent a petition to the Jubilee House calling for the Accra Sports Stadium to be renamed back to Ohene Djan.
Ex-President Kuffuor in consultation with several committee named the new Accra stadium after Ghana’s first sports director but the Ga Traditional Council successfully removed the name from the stadium citing several reasons.
Now Ohene Djan’s family says the decision has been an embarrassment to the family and memory of their late relative.
Angel Sports has gathered that the petition called for government to revert the edifice name to Ohene Djan’s or they ask for his name to be removed from all state archives and records.
Ohene Gyan born on January 29, 1924 was a Ghanaian sports administrator. Ohene Djan was the First Director (Minister) of Sports of Ghana at the Central Organisational of sports (COS) and was also vice-president of the Confederation of African football.
He died on March 26, 1987 in Accra after a short illness.
