New Edubiase United produced their biggest upset in Ghana football by going all the way out to win the 2012 MTN FA Cup against Ashantigold and they did so without conceding a single goal in the competition.
The club of Abdul Salam Yakubu then coached by Anthony Commey took on Adansi rivals Asahntigold in the final match and it is New Edubiase that reigned supreme with a 1-0 win thanks to a solitary goal from Ibrahim Moro.
The Miners have reached the Cup final once again for the first time since 2012 as they seek to clinch the trophy that eluded them nine years ago but they know that Hearts of Oak – losers of the 2017 edition against Kotoko – are on the same mission.
That Ashantigold team had some quality to be honest. Lawrence Lartey in defence. You have Fatau Dauda in goal, the likes of Eric Opoku pulling the strings in midfield and Alex Asamoah as attackers but Asiedu Attobrah, Basit Adams, Nuhu Fuseini, Alhassan Nuhu, Stephen Manu and teammates fought hard to create their own Edubiase history as they go down as legends of the football club.
The 2021 FA Cup final that pits the 2012 losing finalists against the most successful side of the competition Hearts of Oak is slated for Sunday.
