Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori has revealed why he did nit sign for Mamelodi Sundowns earlier on in his career..
Ofori has been in top form in the South African ABSA PSL this season keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding only 15 goals in 24 games for Maritzburg United which has caught the attention of several top teams including Sundowns.
The Maritzburg United skipper pointed out that he could have been featuring for Sundowns now but after passing trials, his chances of regular football was not guaranteed so he had to look elsewhere.
“I first came here for trials at Sundowns and after they gave me that opportunity they decided they would sign me, but because of (no guaranteed) game-time I then came to Maritzburg. I have obviously grown – the Richard that came to South Africa three years ago is not the Richard that you see now,” Ofori told Soccerladuma
With lots of offers on the table for him, Ofori maintains that his attention is on Maritzburg United whom he has one more year contract and that is what matters now.
“I have the experience and I know how things are done now, so automatically I won’t be the same player. But the most important thing is that now I am enjoying my time here at my current club – I can’t talk much about what the future holds, I am concentrating more on Maritzburg United,” he added.
Ofori is also on the wanted list of Kaizer Chiefs as well as Belgian outfits Gent and Kortrijk
