The Algerian international and Leicester City player, Riyad Mahrez has been announced as the best African footballer in 2016 by the Confederation of African Football
Riyad Mahrez has won Africa’s top football honour beating Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane to win the mandate as the 2016 CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
The 25-year-old polled 361 votes whilst last year’s winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled 313 votes against Sadio Mane’s 186 votes.
Riyad Mahrez becomes the first Algerian to win CAF footballer of the year.
