Udinese and Black Stars defender Nicholas Opoku will join Ghana’s U-23 team for their next month’s U-23 Africa Cup of Nations epic final qualifying game against Algeria, SportsworldGhana.com can report exclusively.
The 21-year old center-back, SportsworldGhana.com can confirm Opoku has given his word to head coach Ibrahim Tanko and will soon fly to Ghana to join his teammates in camp.
Opoku’s inclusion would massively help strengthen the Black Meteors defense as St. Gallen defender Musah Nuhu won’t be available for the game due to injury.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s team will face Algeria in the third and final qualifying round of the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in September.
The Black Meteors sealed their place following a 0-0 away draw with Gabon in Libreville to advance from the second qualifying round 4-0 on aggregate.
Algeria, on the other hand, eliminated Equatorial Guinea 3-1 on aggregate after a win at home in the return leg.
Ghana will host the North Africans next month at home and the return leg in Algiers four days later.
The winner will join six other teams and hosts Egypt for the final tournament slated for November 8-22.
