Real Tamale United fought from a goal down to secure 1-1 draw against Accra Great Olympics in their first game back in the Ghana Premier League.
Raymond Okoe’s 28th minute strike was not enough to sway all three points in favour of the Accra-based club on Sunday night as the former AshantiGold man, David Abagna scored from the spot late in the game.
RTU were hoping for a good start to the season after gaining promotion back into the top-flight following their heroics in Zone I of Ghana’s Division One League last season.
The home side started the game on quite a good note creating chances and putting pressure on their opponents but were never close to threatening Olympics’ goalkeeper.
The Dade lads started growing into the game after 15 minutes and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Okoe put the ball in the back of the net to break the deadlock.
Both teams went into the half-time break with just one goal separating them despite the home side’s late pressure.
After the recess, the Tamale-based outfit played some good football creating chances and getting into some advantageous positions.
However, it was in the 89th minute Shaibu Tanko’s side found the equaliser – Abagna stepping up to convert from the spot after RTU were award a penalty.
The points were shared at the end of the day with some good football on display.
