The Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) honoured referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe in March 2021 and he is the referee to handle the Hearts of Oak – Great Olympics blockbuster this Sunday at the Accra Sports stadium.
We put the spotlight on the man in black ahead of the Week 28 – arguably one of his biggest games ever handled as a class One referee.
A SWAG Member
Mr. Senorgbe has been a member of SWAG over the years prior to Volta Regional branch inauguration, and has improved tremendously in his field over a decade as a referee, from divisional games which later gained him placement into the Ghana Premier League.
He was bestowed the honour during the 5th BETWAY/SWAG Conference held weeks back at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho where Kwabena Yeboah, President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, allotted the conference to member and referee, Rustum Gameli Senorgbe for his atypical center man duties on the field in the Ghana Premier League. Enthused with the commendation, Rustum Gameli Senorgbe expressed his appreciation with a speech at the conference saying :
“I’m here to talk because the President Kwabena Yeboah mentioned my name and not talking to you, my people may mean so much disrespect. I’m saying this because in my referee uniform, the rules do not permit media interviews”
“The dedication of the conference to me is a big surprise. A whole Kwabena Yeboah rising to appreciate my work is let me say unimaginable. This man is an authority with high integrity on his own.”
He added that SWAG has produced people who have excelled in other areas and “my performance as member and Referee is worth acknowledging.”
“This recognition says alot, It means eyes are watching and if I mess up, SWAG won’t be happy with me. We can only work for the days ahead and leave the rest to Man and Jah.”
