Considering the facts that Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are historically the bigger football club in Ghana in terms of resources, the fact that Legon Cities were very active in the market signing the likes of Asanoah Gyan and co, one would have thought that the most outstanding player in the Ghana Premier League after the first two round of matches would come from one one these rich clubs.
But that is not the case because the most distinguished footballer in the country’s topflight is playing for Eleven Wonders – a small club from Techiman who refused to be defeated by the Mighty Asante Kotoko and went ahead to register their first victory of the campaign over Ebusua Dwarfs, another Ghana football big name.
These significant achievements for Wonders at the early part of the season was made possible thanks to the big contribution of playmaker Salifu Ibrahim voted Most Valuable Player of the matches against Kotoko and Dwarfs making him the only player to pick the award twice. This puts him above all others
Salifu is into his third season at the Techiman-based side but this season certainly has started well for the left footed player who hails from Offinso-Abofour in the Ashanti region.
His talent has never been in doubt but making the talent count is another different issue and that is exactly what Salifu has started showing at the start of this season.
Very animated and largely involved in his team’s play, Ibrahim Salifu stands the chance of winning the Ghana Premier League Player of the season award if he continues producing the top performances that has seen him pick the best player of the match twice.
