Samartex coach, Nurudeen Amadu, has set his sights on securing qualification to the group stage of the CAF Champions League, as the Timber giants prepare for their maiden appearance in the elite competition.
The team’s historic Ghana Premier League triumph last season earned them a spot in the CAF Champions League, dethroning Medeama.
The team will face Cameroonian champions, Victoria United FC on August 18, 2024, at the Omnisport Stadium in Cameroon, before the return fixture in Ghana on August 25. Following the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) approval, Samartex will host Victoria United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In an interview with JoySports, Amadu emphasized that his main objective is to qualify to the money zone, without giving a specific target. He acknowledged that the team is aiming to make a mark in their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.
“I can’t give a specific target but our main objective is to qualify to the money zone” he JoySports in an interview
Samartex recently ended their preseason training tour in the Eastern Region and returned to Sameraboi for the Nsenkyire Cup. The winner of the tie will progress to the second preliminary round, where they potentially face Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic for a place in the group stages.
The pressure is on Samartex to make a good impression in their first-ever CAF Champions League campaign, and Amadu is determined to lead his team to success.
