Cameroonian football icon Samuel Eto’o has been dropped from Antalyaspor‘s squad until further notice for comments that he made on social media.
As reported by BBC Sport, Eto’o posted on Instagram: “Perhaps some people do not feel respect for me because I am black.”
The veteran forward joined the Turkish side in June 2015 and had a brief spell as the club’s interim player-manager. Eto’o has scored with regularity during his time at Antalyaspor- he was the club’s highest goalscorer n the league last season- but it remains to be seen whether he will play for them again.
Antalyaspor have made a disastrous start to the season that has seen them take just one point from their four league fixtures so far, and the club will be hoping that their fortunes improve quickly before they are dragged into a battle to avoid relegation.
Eto’o has had a varied and decorated career that has seen him take in spells at some of Europe’s most high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea.
