Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has expressed his surprised at the Black Stars performance in the first two 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Ghana kicked off its campaign with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia at the Cape Coast stadium last week Friday before succumbing to defeat to South Africa in Johannesburg earlier this week, dropping from the top spot in Group G after the first two games.
While many have criticised the team with head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor being the primary target, Nana Yaw Amponsah believes some players in the team did not serve their purpose and that was a surprise thing for him.
“Some experienced players did not lead the way I expected in both games and the fact we were not playing as a team at some point surprised me,” he told Starr FM.
Nana Yaw Amponsah went on to explain the game against the Bafana Bafana side, was a game the Black Stars shouldn’t have lost, adding that the current team lacks consistency.
“I felt pain when we lost to South Africa, a game I feel we shouldn’t have lost. I think we lack consistency…Until we plan and plan properly, we are not going to get anywhere.”
