Southampton are thinking about making another move for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a talented winger from Crystal Palace’s academy, as they prepare for life in the Championship once again.
Mick Brown, a former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn and someone still well-informed in football circles, revealed to Football Insider that Rak-Sakyi remains a key target for the Saints.
The 22-year-old was close to joining Southampton last summer, but their £12 million offer was rejected by Palace. Instead, Rak-Sakyi was sent on loan to Sheffield United.
Leeds United and several other Championship clubs also showed interest in the winger. Even though his season at Sheffield United had ups and downs, he continued to be seen as a promising player.
During his time under manager Chris Wilder, Rak-Sakyi managed to score seven goals and assist two more, but he only started 23 matches across all competitions.
Due to limited game time and Crystal Palace’s own challenges, there were talks in October about possibly bringing him back early from the loan, according to Brown.
