The Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has declared his intention to garner support for the Black Stars ahead of the opening world cup qualifier against Uganda.
Black Stars matches have recorded low turnouts post Brazil 2014 world cup.
An AFCON qualifier against Rwanda last month had the worse supporters turnout in recent years with many people pointing accusing figures at the minister.
But Nii Lante disclosed in an interview with a Kumasi based radio station that “I will be the first to get to Tamale. I’m going to gather support for the team. I will go to traditional homes and radio stations to whet people’s appetite ahead of the game. The low patronage will end”
The new move by the minister will surprise many who hold the view that Nii Lante is against the Black Stars.
The Black Stars will start the 2018 world cup journey with a game against Uganda on Friday at Tamale stadium.
