Former Juventus and Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah has jumped to the defense of captain Asamoah Gyan over his inclusion in Coach Akwasi Appiah’s squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifier double header against Sierra Leone.
Gyan, who holds the record for the most goals scored by an African at the FIFA World Cup as well as the all time top scorer for the country, was heavily criticized upon the release of Kwesi Appiah’s squad.
Many argued that Gyan has not enjoyed enough playing time for his Turkish club Kayserispor and however doesn’t merit a call up despite the Stars woeful attack in last month’s 1-0 defeat to Kenya.
However, Appiah when quizzed in an interview with Summer on Angel FM about the criticisms leveled against Gyan’s relevance in the team in terms of bite upfront said.
