Asante Kotoko have the best defence in the Ghana Premier League this season thanks to their lowest number of goals (6) conceded after 14 games played but it is the attack of the Porcupine Warriors that is not doing well.
Asante Kotoko has five defensive players in the latest Black Stars squad done by C.K Akonnor for the AFCON qualification games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe and that is justified by the fact that the team has the most impregnable defence of the league. Six goals conceded in 14 games. That is quiet some job done by Razak Abalora, Christopher Nettey, Imoro Ibrahim, Ismail Ganiu, Mubarik Yussif and co.
The five players mentioned above are the regulars names in the defenfive department of Kotoko this season but the attack of the team of the Ashanti Kingdom does not match the defence. 12 goals scored in 14 games means a scoring ratio of 0.86 which is not a good decimal.
Kwame Poku, 7 goals this season, has provided 58% of the goals scored by Kotoko this season whilst the remaining 5 goals have come from Imoro Ibrahim who has two goals, a goal by Christopher Nettey, one from Naby Keita and another from the boots of Osman Ibrahim.
They say strong defence wins championships but certainly if the team is to compete for the title, they need to boost the attack. Unfortunately, it does not look like that area will be receiving any significant improvement looking at how the transfer business of the club has been with the deadline for the second registration of players set at March 18th, 2021.
