Multichoice has confirmed officially that it will not be able to broadcast the 2023 AFCON on Supersport.
In a statement released via Multichoice and Supersport’s different Social Media outlets on Wednesday afternoon, the giant broadcasters confirmed their inability to acquire the rights for the tournament.
“Supersport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024 because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.
“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on free-to-air (FTA) Channels.
“Multichoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivalled access to entertainment and football games available on DSTV and GOTV platforms including the Premier League, Laliga, Serie A and Zambian Super League and many more of football’s most prestigious competitions”, revealed Supersport.
Many Sub-Saharan Africans depend on Supersport for football and this announcement will come as a piece of bad news to them as they were looking forward to enjoying the AFCON 2023 on Supersport.
Nonetheless, New World TV, a Togo-based satellite television network, has secured a three-year media rights deal with CAF to broadcast all CAF competitions from 2023 to 2025 in 46 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
