Dr. Nsiah Asare – the Advisor to the President of Ghana on Health matters, has said that football fans who fail to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols will be denied entry to the match venues to support their respective clubs.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 17th Address to the Nation on the update of the COVID-19 pandemic, lifted the ban on contact sports, giving clearance for the resumption of competitive football activities in Ghana.
Football activities in Ghana have been on suspension since March 16, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, leading to the cancellation of the 2019/2020 season.
”When we decided to open the churches we had same complaints that the virus could spread more but that didn’t happen. We know someone could test positive,” he told Kumasi-based Hello FM.
”Nothing has happened in Europe when they started playing football again, and we have been learning from others when they took certain decisions.
”I believe if they [clubs] follow all the precautions and the spectators are protected well, nothing bad will be experienced.
”However, if the league starts and we realise that the supporters are not following the protocols we will rescind the decision to resume football. The clubs will then play in an empty stadium.
”I know if the supporters go to the stadia with their masks on and observe social distancing protocol, I don’t think any bad thing will happen.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association has set between November 13-16 as the commencement date for the start of the 2020/21 season.
