The T and A Stadium, which has been undergoing a significant upgrade since 2020, is set to officially open on August 16 in Tarkwa.
The renovation and expansion of the Tarkwa and Abosso (T&A) Sports Stadium, a US$16.2 million project funded by Gold Fields Ghana Limited through the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, is now complete. The stadium will be formally handed over to the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly on the inauguration day.
Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the Special Guest of Honour, with other dignitaries, including GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, also expected to attend.
The renovation, led by Michelette Company Limited and overseen by consultant Top Technocrats Ghana Limited, has modernized the stadium, which now boasts a 10,400-seat capacity. Final preparations are underway for a test match between Medeama and Hearts of Oak.
In addition to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and the Sports Council, other partners include local churches, Medeama Football Club, local chiefs, and various stakeholders.
The new T&A Stadium will be Ghana’s first to feature a digital pitch advertising board, thanks to Gold Fields Ghana Ltd. This cutting-edge digital panel aims to revolutionize stadium advertising with its advanced technology and dynamic display capabilities, enhancing the experience for both spectators and advertisers.
The fully covered, 10,000-seat stadium, which cost approximately $16 million, is expected to boost the local economy and enhance the image of the mining town. The upgrade includes redesigned seating, VIP and media stands, ticket booths, drainage, and more.
The completion of the T&A Stadium marks a significant development in sports infrastructure for the region, promising greater community engagement and improved facilities.
