Tariq Lamptey made his long-awaited return to action for Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend, stepping onto the pitch for the first time since February after recovering from an injury that had sidelined him for months.
The Ghanaian right-back had been ruled out of the national team’s March international fixtures—World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar—due to the injury. He also missed several games for Brighton, including the FA Cup tie against Newcastle United in February.
Lamptey finally made his comeback during Brighton’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the London Olympic Stadium on Sunday. He was brought on nine minutes into the second half, replacing Mats Wieffer.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Brighton had taken the lead through Gambian striker Yankuba Minteh in the first half, but Newcastle responded late in the game, with Alexander Isak converting a penalty to earn the visitors a point.
Now fully fit, Lamptey is determined to finish the season strongly as he faces uncertainty over his future. His contract with Brighton is set to expire at the end of June, and he will become a free agent unless the club offers him an extension.
Reportedly on Ajax’s radar, the Ghana international will be hoping to impress in the final games of the campaign to secure a new deal or attract interest from other top clubs.
