Terry Yegbe’s steady rise in Scandinavian football reached a new milestone on Monday evening as the Ghanaian defender scored his first goal of the 2025 Swedish Allsvenskan season, helping IF Elfsborg secure a 2-0 home victory over GAIS.
The 24-year-old centre-back, who earned his senior Ghana debut in November 2024 during the AFCON qualifiers, continues to strengthen his reputation as one of the country’s most promising defensive talents.
Yegbe found the net from a set-piece situation, delivering a powerful strike after outmaneuvering his marker inside the penalty area—a goal that underlined both his technical awareness and physical presence.
The goal also symbolized the growing confidence of the former SJK player, who joined Elfsborg at the end of last season in a move that has proven to match both his quality and ambitions. Since arriving from the Finnish top flight, Yegbe has become a key figure in Elfsborg’s defensive setup.
After a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw them finish 7th, Elfsborg have climbed to 4th place after seven matches this season—thanks in no small part to a revitalized backline marshaled by Yegbe.
His impact is being felt beyond his defensive duties, and as he gains more exposure in Sweden’s top division, calls for his regular inclusion in Ghana’s national team setup are expected to intensify.
Yegbe’s rise reflects a broader trend of Ghanaian players developing in the Scandinavian leagues as a springboard to larger stages in European football.
