Former Ghana midfielder, Anthony Obodai has admitted that he enjoyed the Dutch League more than any of the countries he played in.
The gritty midfielder has roamed Europe with the Dutch league being the biggest he has featured in a career spanning over almost a decade.
“I really enjoyed my time in the Netherlands when I played there.”
“There is no place to kick start your career better than the Netherlands.”
“If you play in the Netherlands, you can play in any league around the world without difficulty.”
“If you play for clubs like Ajax and Feyenoord, you can fit into any league worldwide.”Anthony Obodai told Adamu Muftawu.
Obodai signed for Dutch giants, Ajax Amsterdam from Ghana’s Liberty Professionals after just a season.
He enjoyed quite a number of games and was subsequently sent on loan to Belgian club, Germinal Beerschot where he had a regular playing time.
The now 37-year-old returned to the Netherlands to feature for Sparta Rotterdam where he had arguably the best tenure in his Dutch football career.
After a fruitful time at Sparta where he captained the club, RKC Waalwijk came calling which he later joined for a spell.
The final part of his career saw him move to the United States for stints with Houston Dynamo,Phoenix FC and Pittsburg Riverhounds.
Brief spells at Turkish club, Magusa Türk Gücü and Swedish side Ånge added a few years of European experience to his curriculum vitae.
